Replacing the sub-woofer is how the whole stereo project got started. The sub from the factory was a little 15W jobber connected to the rear speakers - pretty disappointing overall. | So once again comes the repeated lament of how small this truck is and how little space there is to install things (you'll only have to read this one more time). Looking around the cab, I can see only one place to install the big Alpine sub and that is here:
The idea is to put the sub in that tombstone-shape.
To create an enclosure that is the proper shape, I decided to use a piece of sonotube sitting on an MDF stand. A quick trip to a local concrete dealer (OCP) got me a length of 14" Sonotube. Sonotube, in case you didn't know, is used in construction to pour concrete pillars. So as you can imagine, it is very strong. It was cut to a workable length and two end caps and a center brace were cut from the MDF.
A stand was created with the MDF.
The tape, by the way, was put on to help to cut the tube straight.
