Originally, I had ordered KTM's locking mount for the device but it turns out that it was designed for the previous 550 model and would not fit this one. Luckily, Garmin provided all the RAM mounts necessary for installation:
The RAM mount will replace the clamp to hold the left side hand guard:
While looking for locations to mount the inverters, I found two pairs of connecters ty-wrapped to the headlamp and guage support frame marked "AUX1" and "AUX2". Well, isn't that handy! I wondered where the output of those fuses led. Turns out AUX1 is steady voltage and AUX2 is ignition switched:
The switched feed will be used to power the GPS. I don't like or trust quick connects so as usual, I cut them off, fed the power wiring for the GPS down to this point and soldered the leads together:
Lastly, the GPS is mounted:
It works as it should switching on and off with the ignition.
It didn't take long before I decided that I didn't like the RAM mount. I was concerned both about it being too easy to steal or perhaps getting knocked loose while riding. So, I checked Touratech and indeed they had the locking mount for the 660:
So, once again I had to take the front of the bike apart:
I used a pair of EMT scissors to cut slots into the "dash":
...and next rounded out the slots with a dremel and smoothed the edges:
These slots allowed me to install this frame to support the mount:
...and here is the locking mount:
Finally, here is the navigator's new location. I like it much better up here and certainly am confident in not losing it:
