With the box mostly complete, it is time for a coat of paint. First all the sawdust has to be removed so a tack cloth was used. |
The box is given a nice even coat of Tremclad Hammered Finish paint. Although not quite as textured as I thought it was going to be, it still came out ok. Almost looks like metal.
The lid was created. Notice the two pieces of carpet supporting the lid in the corners. Those were to ensure a correct fit once the carpet is attached.
I was recoating the box over and over trying to get the edges of the MDF to match the rest (paint kept soaking into the wood) until one of my guys pointed out that it was going to be carpeted. Anyhow, it was time to glue the carpet to the box. I talked to a fellow at a hardware store and he told me the best way to do it would be to use this "Multi-Purpose Flooring Adhesive". All I had to do, he said, was apply a thin coat with a scraper-type tool. So I cut all my pieces to size and "scraped" the glue on.
And it promptly soaked right through the carpet and it all ended up here:
I ended up using a glue gun and that worked just fine.
