Time to tweak!   First, using the oscilloscope on an IFR COM-120B communications service monitor, I set my amp gains to prevent clipping:

Scoping the amplifier outputs

Next, with one of my wife's studio mics, some test tones I downloaded and a Real Time Analyzer program I ran some level tests.

The test did not work out as well as I hoped.   It seems that a vocal mic only has a flat response from about 300-3000 Hz and the mic input in the little notebook less than that.   Either way, I didn't believe the results and ended up setting it "by ear" for now.   It sounds really good but I'm sure there is more in there and am currently looking for a professional with the proper tools to squeak the last bit out of it.
